CloseRoman soldiers brutally mocking Jesus, the "King of the Jews," by dressing him in a scarlet robe, crowning him with thorns, and placing a reed scepter in his hand, all while kneeling and jeering "Hail, King of the Jews," before spitting on him and striking him with the reed before leading him to crucifixion, a scene highlighting his profound humiliation and ironic kingship.
