The Day of the Lord
The "Day of the Lord" describes a future, sudden, and unexpected divine intervention of judgment and salvation, arriving like a "thief in the night" amidst false cries of "peace and safety" for the world. Paul contrasts this sudden destruction for the unready with the believers, who, as "children of the day," should stay "awake and be sober," equipped with the armor of faith, love, and the hope of salvation, not destined for wrath but to live with Christ.
